2024: Flat Earth’s Year of Impact and Progress
This year, we are proud to have achieved great milestones in sustainability, community engagement, and exceptional and consistent service by our team.
From serving over 25,000 plant-based pizzas to producing food waste at 30% lower than industry average, and operating entirely on renewable energy - our commitment to the planet has never been stronger. We deepened our connection with the community by working with a local hospice and have strengthened a workplace culture that values and supports our team.
Highlights of the year included earning a 3-star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association, co-founder Sarah Brading being celebrated as a Sustainability Trailblazer, listed in Code Hospitality’s Hospitality Women Of The Year, and—most importantly—our incredible team, whose resilience, support, and kindness continue to inspire us and one another.
Here’s a summary of what we’ve achieved:
Planet-Friendly Pizzas
Eating Less Meat:
We cooked over 25,000 meat-free pizzas, encouraging plant-forward eating.
Advocates for reducing meat consumption to create a better world by collectively eating a little less meat.
Sustainability Initiatives
Food Waste
Produced 5.3 tonnes of food waste annually, 30% lower than the industry average of 8–10 tonnes. Our 3-tonne reduction on the average is the equivalent to the weight of two fully grown giraffes.
Our unavoidable food waste is converted into renewable energy.
Closed-Loop Wine System:
Reduced waste and carbon footprint by serving 1,500 litres of organic wine from refillable kegs.
Replacing the need of 1,948 single-use bottles.
This produces a 96% lower carbon footprint per glass of wine compared to traditional bottling.
Carbon Footprint:
Ranked second-lowest in emissions among UK restaurants with 47 tonnes CO2e in 2024 (1.53 kg CO2e per customer).
73% of emissions come from food purchases, with dairy accounting for 62% of that.
Plans to reduce further with a new energy-efficient oven purchased in October 2024.
Restaurant operates on 100% renewable energy.
Community Impact
Charitable Support:
Donated £1 per Aubergine Parmigiana sold to St. Joseph’s Hospice and provided year-round discounts to their team.
Raised funds for the Fawcett Society in March to support gender equality.
Organic Veg Bag Initiative:
Facilitated 1,200 organic veg bag collections in partnership with Growing Communities.
Promoted healthier eating and sustainable farming in London via this initiative
Employee Wellbeing:
Over 70% of our team has been with us for over a year, reflecting a stable, supportive and kind culture (that they have all helped build!)
